Helping Hands

A mobile application dedicated to building a network between volunteers and NGOs

Collaborators: Jash Zaveri, Prachi Seth, Rachana Rachaprolu, Roshni Rana, Tanvi Senapati

We were required to design an app that caters to urban lifestyle. We chose an app that aids people in community building and for providing a platform for community connection and interaction.

Volunteering came into picture for community building as we felt the communication between NGOs and students/volunteers needs to improve to ensure projects are delivered on time and to a really high standard and to connect the two communities to make a happy space for both of them.

GOALS

  • To connect aspiring volunteers with NGOs and NGOs with volunteers.

  • To inspire working for a good cause.

  • To eliminate the feeling of helplessness in society.

  • To create a platform for people and organisations catering to similar purposes, to connect easily.

  • To make the world a better place.

The purpose of Helping Hands is to provide a platform where anyone between the ages of 13-24 willing to volunteer for a good cause may be able to find a suitable NGO within their desirable time frame.

Helping hands wants to bring about a wave of positive growth within different communities and inculcate in children from a younger age itself, the importance of lending a hand to someone in need. We at helping hands encourage Children and young adults alike to come forward in creating a better society for all of us, full of compassion and kindness where we learn to be mindful of the people around us.

PURPOSE

TARGET USERS

  • PRIMARY:

  • Individual volunteers, aged 16-23 years

  • School group volunteers, aged 13-17 years

  • NGOs that need volunteering

  • One of the main focus of our application is to get the younger audience, ranging from 13-15 years, to start volunteering at a young age. A platform where such young people can select foundations, charities and personalised volunteering work.

  • SECONDARY:

  • Helping old people by doing some of their daily chores or running a few errands.

  • Helping single parents with babysitting.

  • Helping take care of patients after surgeries or treatments.

  • Helping mentally ill people in daily activities.

FUNCTIONS

Based on user feedback, we decided to divide the app into two parts: for volunteers and for NGO’s. This helps the users easily navigate between the experiences they’ve chosen, and makes the flow of the app easier to understand.

INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE

Helping Hands is an application aimed to create a platform for volunteers and NGOs to interact with each other while contributing to creating a network for volunteering.

We felt how Helping Hands fit just right for the platform we wanted to create for NGOs & volunteers.

The logo represents two hands mixing together and coming together to help each other out. The purple indicates the privileged and the orange, indicates the happiness that the volunteers bring.
